Led by experienced desert guides, this is more than just a tour—it’s a journey through the raw, mystical beauty of Egypt’s Western Desert.
Bahariya Oasis
After breakfast at your hotel or lodge in Bahariya Oasis, we begin our desert safari. Our experienced driver-guide will pick you up in a well-equipped 4×4 vehicle. Heading south, we leave the oasis behind and journey toward the legendary Black Desert.
Explore the Black Desert
The Black Desert is a vast landscape blanketed by dark volcanic rock and conical hills, the remnants of ancient volcanic eruptions. The basalt-covered dunes form an eerie, moon-like terrain that offers panoramic views and excellent photo opportunities. Climb a volcanic hill to admire the sweeping desert horizon before continuing the journey.
El Haez Village and Hot Springs
Next, we reach El Haez, a small Bedouin village nestled amidst the desert. Here, you’ll have a chance to relax and rejuvenate at a natural hot spring, famous for its mineral-rich waters and peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy traditional tea served by local Bedouins as you learn about their desert way of life.
Lunch at Crystal Mountain
We continue towards the shimmering Crystal Mountain, a ridge made of stunning quartz crystal formations, exposed by erosion over millions of years. This iconic stop on the desert trail glitters in the sunlight, earning it the nickname “Jewel of the Desert.” A delicious picnic-style lunch will be served here amid dazzling surroundings.
Drive to the Valley of Agabat
From Crystal Mountain, we head deeper into the desert to reach the Valley of Agabat (Wadi Al-Agabat)—a surreal landscape of towering white limestone formations, golden sand dunes, and smooth chalk rocks. These naturally carved formations are shaped like mushrooms, pillars, and even animals. This is one of the most scenic parts of the Western Desert, ideal for hiking and photography.
Sand Dunes and Desert Formations
As we journey through El Agabat, you’ll experience off-road dune bashing, an adrenaline-pumping ride over vast sand dunes. We will also stop to observe unique rock shapes formed by millennia of wind erosion—some resemble a chicken, mushroom, horse, and even an ice cream cone.
Arrival at New White Desert & Camp Setup
Arrive at the heart of the New White Desert National Park, famous for its alien-like landscape of chalk rock formations rising from white sand plains. We’ll set up camp near these stunning geological features.
Dinner & Stargazing Experience
Enjoy a freshly prepared Bedouin dinner under the stars. The desert sky offers one of the clearest views of the Milky Way, and it’s a prime location for stargazing and night photography. Gather around the campfire, share stories, and relax in the peace and silence of the Western Desert.
Overnight Stay: Comfortable Bedouin-style desert camp with sleeping bags and blankets provided.
Sunrise and Breakfast
Wake early to watch the breathtaking sunrise over the White Desert, casting soft pink and golden hues over the chalky terrain. After a hearty desert breakfast, we begin our return journey.
Visit the Old White Desert
We explore the Old White Desert, home to several of the desert’s most iconic formations. Here, you’ll witness massive white chalk rocks standing in stark contrast to the soft, golden sand. These formations have been sculpted over millions of years and often resemble animals and fantastical shapes.
Wadi El Khiam and the Acacia Tree
Next, we drive through Wadi El Khiam, a dry valley featuring fossilized remains and ancient seabed traces, evidence of the area’s prehistoric origins. We’ll stop at the Old Acacia Tree, a lonely yet iconic tree that symbolizes life and resilience in the harsh desert.
Unique Wind-Formed Rock Shapes
Along the way, we’ll observe several naturally sculpted rocks that resemble familiar shapes like a mushroom, chicken, horse, and the famous ice cream cone formation—perfect for memorable photos and exploration on foot.
Return to Bahariya Oasis
By early afternoon, we return to Bahariya Oasis, where you can relax, freshen up, and reflect on your incredible desert adventure. Optional: lunch at a local restaurant (on request).
